PMC Mentor Coach Requirements

Application Process


In order to apply for PMC, all applications must contain responses to and documentation for all of the 14 requirements (Part One) and complete the Mentor Coach Questionnaire (Part Two). They are to be submitted in e-mail format (no attachments) to Pamela.Richarde@coachu.com for all applicants.  Please note that meeting all of the requirements does not guarantee that a certification designation will be awarded by Coach U. The final decision rests with the final review process in order to insure that the highest professional standards are achieved and maintained.

Applications can be submitted during the open application periods. Open application periods are available twice a year -- April 1-15, and Oct 1-15 .

NOTE: The ability to laser answers in this questionnaire will be part of the evaluation process. Please try to be as succinct as possible.

 
Part One

Requirements/Application

To be considered for the Professional Mentor Coach (PMC) designation, a coach must meet the following requirements. Please respond to each of these requirements and for those that require documentation, please put into e-mail format and send in separate e-mails.

  1. Be a Coach U Graduate and have been coaching for at least three years. This means having completed all the requirements of the Professional Essentials Program (formerly:Advanced Coaching Program at Coach U or the Advanced Corporate Coaching Program). Only Coach U coaches can be designated as a Professional Mentor Coach in our community.
  1. Be an ICF certified coach (PCC or MCC levels only). PMC's are eligible to participate in the Coach U Professional Mentor Coach programs and are committed to be an active participant in the Professional Mentor Coach program two out of every three years.
  1. Agree not to share the Coach U Library contents, audio or video recordings, password protected Web locations or other learning/training aids with coaches they are mentoring who are not in Coach U Training Programs.  Professional Mentor Coaches agree to respect all Coach U's intellectual property. 
  1. Have mentored a minimum of 10 coaches/students for a minimum of 6 months each. The mentoring relationship with the required 10 coaches/students is to include assessment and reflection of coaching skill competency, with regular feedback. Please list the names and contact information of 10 coaches/students, including time coached, and contact information. In addition, please write your experience with 5 of these coaches/students and get letters of experience/recommendation from these 5 coaches/students. The PMC candidate must have skill and experience in coach skill development mentoring other coaches/students in order to become a Coach U recognized Professional Mentor Coach. This is the heart of mentor coaching and requires the ability to transfer the technology.
  1. Have coached a minimum of 25 non-coach/non-student clients (one-on-one) for a minimum of 3 months. PMCs need the broad inter-developmental experience that is gained from working with non-coach/non-student clients in a one-on-one coaching format. (Note: this requirement most likely was met with your ICF Certification.)
  1. Have an established coaching business - individual, group or business/corporate clients of at least ten revenue clients (must include at least five non-coach/non-student clients).
  1. Have served or is serving in leadership positions with Coach U and/or the broader coaching community, actively participating in a key volunteer position. This is an effective way for coaches to develop a reputation for technical competence and to display their skill and talents in a forum that naturally provides for review by their peers. Some typical leadership and/or volunteer positions include: Faculty, Coach U Community Engagement host or member/contributor to an active ICF chapter.
  1. Professional Mentor Coaches are also committed to the development of other coaches in attaining the technical and practical skills required to be a Professional Mentor Coach. Share why you should be awarded the PMC designation and include how you are going to make a difference in the development of other coaches/students and the coach mentoring process/arena. An expectation is that you will participate and support the PMC programs.
  1. Have a coach/mentor coach of your own. Provide a letter of endorsement and recommendation from your mentor coach.
  1. Be endorsed and recommended for the PMC designation by two (2) Coach U Professional Mentor Coaches (PMC's).
  1. Agree to honor the Ethics Code of Coach U/ICF and additional professional guidelines established by the Professional Mentor Coach group.
  1. Attend a current Coach U session (CE101), and New Coach Orientation (CE110) . You can check the course schedule and register. Then, complete Part II of this application/questionnaire, and return it to Pamela.Richarde@coachu.com.
  1. When active in the Coach U Professional Mentor Coaching program, be willing to extend the special Coaching Skill Mentoring with Supervision rate to all Coach U students and graduates. (minimum of three months of discounted fee.  Can adjust after if desired).

 Renewal
(for your reference, awareness and consideration when making application for PMC)

In order to retain the Professional Mentor Coach designation, application for renewal is required every three years. Renewal guidelines are:

  • ICF certification (PCC/MCC) is current/active
  • Supply four letters of recommendation from coaches you have mentored in the past three (3) years.
  • Have at least 10 active revenue clients (at least five of these must be non-coach/student clients)
  • Have no unresolved complaints from coaches/students you have/are coaching
  • Have participated in the Coach U Professional Mentor Coaching programs two of the past three years and are willing to participate/be active in the Professional Mentor Coaching programs two of the next three years.
  • For professional development and remaining current with Coach U:
    • Have attended at least five (5) [out of eight (8)] Faculty/PMC's Developmental Calls each year (a total of 15 hours in the three-year renewal period).
    • Attend one (1) Coach U courses (CE101, 1 hour) within the three-year renewal period.
    • Attend one (1) New Coach Orientation (CE110, 4 hours) during each three-year renewal period.
